You should not receive this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to amphotericin B
Uses:
Injectable
Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins.
This medicine is given slowly, so your IV needle will usually need to stay in place for 1 to 2 hours.
A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. It may also be given by a home health caregiver.
Never share your medicine with anyone.
If a dose is missed:
This medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, call your doctor, home healthcare provider, or pharmacist for instructions.
Storage:
If you store the unopened vials (bottles) of this medicine at home, keep them in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.
Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
Special precautions:
Before taking, tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to any medications. tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart failure or liver disease. tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking, call your doctor
Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using other antifungal medicines (such as Ancobon®, Nizoral®, or Monistat®), cancer medicines, corticosteroids (such as prednisone or cortisone), corticotropin (ACTH), digoxin (Lanoxin®), or muscle relaxants.
Warnings:
Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Your doctor may want to do lab tests while you are receiving this medicine, to check for unwanted effects. Be sure to keep all appointments.
Side Effects:
Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in face or hands, swelling or tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in chest, trouble breathing
Fast or irregular heartbeat
Fever and chills or shaking
Severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Trouble breathing
Unusual tiredness or weakness
Headache
Mild nausea or upset stomach, diarrhea
Swelling, pain, or redness where the IV needle is placed
